Chough Cottage, Crackington Haven

Light and airy modern cottage situated in beautiful National Trust coastal area.  Chough Cottage is on a quiet private road just 200m from Crackington Haven beach - location of cafes, pub, sand, surf and rock pools.

Great for kids and also adults who love walking the coastal path or exploring Cornwall. Put on the wetsuit and wander down to the cafes and beach with your bodyboard. The house overlooks a beautiful wooded valley with panoramic sea views from the house - lovely to sit on the balcony or the bench in the garden overlooking the sea sipping a glass of wine.

Accommodation Details

The house is furnished to a high standard with large open-plan living area containing original artwork, large sofas and lounge chairs, wood-burning stove, coffee tables and satelite smart-TV for Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. We have a super-fast fibre-optic wifi.  The kitchen has modern appliances including dining for 8, two fridges, dishwasher, washing machine, ceramic cooker and polished stone work tops and leads to a breakfast/games room and via french windows to a patio for BBQ/outside dining. There are two large master bedrooms with en-suites, a large twin bedroom, and a small bedroom which can sleep 1 or 2 people at a pinch.  All three bathrooms have been upgraded to a high standard with walk-in showers.  We have "smart-house" features including Google smart-speakers, security camera, and Nest controlled heating with instant hot water and skylights which automatically close in the unlikely event that it ever rains.

There is a lovely patio area with table and chairs and a Weber gas barbecue - great for long Cornish evenings.

We have a table tennis table in the breakfast room and you can borrow our surf boards at your own risk.  We have a studio in the garden which contains sun-loungers and deck chairs for the"ever-present" Cornish sun. There are great rock pools on the beach for the kids; two cafes with great coffee and food; tennis and a super pub within crawling distance.  Cornwall has some great towns to visit with loads of fine dining and gastro-pubs.  Attractions include the Eden Project, St Nectan's Glen, King Arthur at Tintagel and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

We are situated on a private gated quiet lane (10mph) and have easy parking for about 4 cars.

We have a local property manager - Matt - for fixing any problems quickly.  Included in the price are cleaning services; and fresh linen and towels.  A welcome pack is provided with local Cornish cake and biscuits.

We had a major upgrade (to what was already a lovely house) which finished in July 2022.  This included much larger open plan living area, new bedroom with balcony and new ensuite.

More Reviews

The location and setting for the house met all our requirements and could not ask for anything else. It met all our needs and more and would definitely recommend to anyone else. It's exactly as stated and Tim was responsive when communicating. For a family group then this place is ideal. I would definitely like to return one day as we had such a great time.

Things to See & Do

...

Beach, Surf and Rockpools

The coastline is real Cornwall with rugged cliffs and atlantic waves.  Serious surfing at Crackington or Body Boarding for normal people like me.  Loads of rockpools with sharks! for the kids.

...

Walking

Crackington is on the Cornish coastal path. Walking here is pretty serious stuff.  Go North to Bude up the Penkenna cliff or South to Boscastle.  Get the bus back.  Also, great walks on the mystical Bodmin Moor.

Restaurants and Coffee Life

Two coffee shops and a pub within 400m.  Pub voted in top 5 seaside pubs in the UK.  The food in all three is great - homemade cakes and pasties at the cafes and good quality gastropub fare at the pub (a specials menu from the pub is above, order quickly as it will get rubbed off!).  Cornwall's fine dining is legendary - visit Boscastle, Port Isaac and Padstow.
